THE SHAWSHANK PRISON REDEMPTION SONG

by Brian Holmberg

The Shawshank Prison Redemption song was inspired by the great Johnny Cash classic: Folsom Prison Blues.

THE SHAWSHANK PRISON REDEMPTION SONG

Got off the bus at Shawshank Prison / On a chain gang no longer free.

I heard a greeting from the Warden / He said: “Your ass belongs to me.”

I was baptized with a fire hose / And marched naked to my cell.

With my skin on fire, I realized / I was in the depths of hell.

I did some time down in solitary / In the darkness of my sin.

But I drew comfort from the music / That said: “Salvation lies within.”

CHORUS:

I want to save my soul / Break out of this prison / Don’t want to end up dead.

I want to live in hope / And find my Redemption / And follow Andy and Red.

Verse

I’m gonna watch, I’m gonna pray / For my soul to be free.

There is hope and forgiveness / For an “old crook like me.”

There’s one more thing I should say / One last word I should mention.

“Put your trust in the Lord” / For with Him is full Redemption.

Outro

I want to live in Hope / Salvation is in reach.

I want to save my soul / And walk on that beach.

* Verses 1-3 / Chorus / Verses 4-5 / Chorus 2x / Outro 2x
